FARMINGTON – A Lincoln man accused of drunken driving that resulted in the death of a co-worker pleaded not guilty to three charges related to the Oct. 17, 2007, fatal wreck on Route 27 in New Vineyard.

Ryan A. Hurd, 22, 5 Highland Ave., Lincoln, pleaded not guilty to manslaughter, aggravated criminal operating under the influence and criminal operating under the influence in connection with the death of Terry Richardson Jr., 34, of Dover-Foxcroft, and injuries to Chad Bernier, 30, of Medway.

All three were doing construction in Kingfield at the time of the crash.

State police previously said Hurd was driving a car at 98 mph when it went out of control on Route 27, struck a pole, rolled over and burst into flames. Alcohol and speed caused the wreck, state police said then.

The manslaughter charge carries a penalty of up to 30 years in prison.

Hurd’s attorney, Richard L. Hartley, asked that Hurd’s bail conditions be amended to allow incidental contact with Bernier.

Justice Michaela Murphy approved the amendment.

with Assistant District Attorney James Andrews having no objection.

The bail conditions include no possession or use of alcohol.
