FARMINGTON — The final Global Positioning System (GPS) training session for the summer will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at the USDA Service Center. The class is limited to 25 and is on a first-come, first-serve basis. The registration form along with the $15 fee must be turned in to the Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District office no later than Aug. 7.

Patty Cormier of the Maine Forest Service will conducting the training for the district. She will bring the Garman Environment 76 GPS units that will be used.

The training will teach the basics of how a GPS works, what it can accurately be used for, what its limitations are, where the unit works best and when the unit should be turned on to get the correct readings. Participants will also be shown how to put in way points and check information for accuracy.
