LEWISTON – A Caregiver Celebration will be held Friday, Nov. 7, at the Ramada Inn, sponsored by SeniorsPlus.
Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the event to run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Caregivers of a loved ones who are above the age of 18 and are disabled or elderly are invited.
Special guests will include Joanne Koenig Coste, author of “Learning to Speak Alzheimer’s.” A nationally recognized expert and an advocate for patient and family care, Coste offers a practical approach to the emotional well being of both patients and caregivers that emphasizes relating to patients in their own reality. Her method, which she calls habilitation, works to enhance communication between care partners and patients.
Kathleen Kienitz, elder law attorney in Lewiston, will discuss the unique legal issues the elderly and their families face and how difficult it is to keep up with laws and regulations that grow more complex every year. She will discuss how to better understand the process and the steps to take in preparing for the future, specifically guardianships and conservatorships.
A hot lunch buffet will be served as well as activities such as therapeutic neck and back massage, hand massage, health screenings, Reiki, crafts, two senior exercise sessions and music. There will also be printed educational information to take home.
