MEXICO – The Congregational Church, known locally as the “green church,” has been burglarized twice since the start of June. The burglars went after sound systems on both occasions.

Police Sgt. Roy Hodsdon believes the same suspect may be involved in both burglaries.

The first was reported at 1:18 p.m. on June 1, when someone entered the Maine Street church while a member was in another part of the building.

Hodsdon said a stereo system valued at about $300 was taken. The church replaced it, only to have the new system stolen two weeks later.

A church member reported Sunday morning that the cables and new stereo system were taken sometime over the weekend. This time, the thief broke into the church and caused about $100 damage to the exterior. The cables and stereo system were valued at $500.

Hodsdon said the police department has a lead in the investigation.
