Former President Trump took a page out of a banana republic dictator’s playbook: If you lose an election, you declare it fraudulent and attempt an insurrection.

The attempt failed. In a banana republic, the president would either succeed or be imprisoned.

We sent our ex-president into exile with his government pension to Mar-a-Lago. Over 40 court challenges by the Trump campaign were overruled or thrown out of court. “Trump’s Big Lie” was debunked.

Because 50% of Republican voters still believe the election was stolen, legislatures in 47 states (Trump only alleged fraud in six states, for Pete’s sake) have introduced voter restrictions. They have the audacity to say they are restoring voter confidence in our elections that they undermined in the first place.

I say “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
