Faith Barker: Elect Sheats to Maine Senate
I am happy to support candidate Bettyann Sheats for Maine Senate. Bettyann has been an active member of our community for 30 years, including serving four years in the State House. She has a history of involvement in many programs that have benefited Maine residents, such as the Public Transit Advisory Council, St. Mary’s Food […]

David Oshansky: Influx of refugees can be tough on already-stressed cities
In Lewiston in 2002, Mayor Larry Raymond was facing increasing financial problems within his city due to the unexpected influx of refugees. Raymond asked the Somalis to “reduce the stress on our limited finances” and stop moving to his city. Raymond was then branded as a racist. In Manchester, New Hampshire, in 2011, Mayor […]

Norm Gellatly: Exploring conditions that could lead to mass shootings
Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio very recently expressed, publicly anyway, a general unawareness of why mass shootings continue to happen. Darby Ray: Cloutier gets much done in Augusta for constituents
I am proud to support Kristen Cloutier for re-election to the Maine State House of Representatives. Kristen works tirelessly to represent her constituents. On numerous occasions, I have either asked for her help myself or have recommended to others that they contact her for assistance. Without exception she has replied promptly and constructively to such […]

William LaRochelle: Trump needs some American history lessons
Just when I think former President Trump has run out of self-admiring bilge, he opens his mouth again, spouting more. Back in April at a rally in Selma, North Carolina, the man who wrote the book on all-occasion mendacity boasted, “I’ve got to be the cleanest, I think I’m the most honest human being, perhaps, […]
