Demolition of Forster Mill has been completed. Once final sign-off from Maine Department of Environmental Protection and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is issued, town officials will consider future use of the site.

Nicole joined Sun Journal’s Western Maine Weeklies group in 2019 as a staff writer for the Franklin Journal and Livermore Falls Advertiser. Later she moved over to the Advertiser Democrat where she covers Oxford Hills communities and School Administrative District 17. She seizes every opportunity to research and write about local history and she enjoys writing features that leave readers with a smile. Nicole graduated summa cum laude from the University of Southern Maine with a B.A. in history and concentration in creative writing. She held audience development and marketing positions at several Maine-based trade media companies in the Portland area before taking on community news. When not working she is an avid reader and fiber artist and enjoys observing local wildlife, from snakes and blue frogs to large game and carnivores. A colorful race is in the books
Close to 300 runners and walkers participated and more than twenty volunteers pitched in to support United Way of the Tri-Valley Area’s 2019 COLOR ME UNITED 5k Race in Farmington on Saturday.

The Farmington Water Department recently made improvements to its systems. The department serves about 1,600 customer in Farmington, Temple, and Wilton.

Eric Venturini, Pollinator Conservationist with Xerces Society and National Resources Conservation Service, spoke about Maine’s 278 native pollinator species and simple ways farmers, gardeners and landscapers can conserve habitat for bees, butterflies, moths and hummingbirds.

On Saturday, August 24, Bishop Robert P. Deeley will celebrate the 125th Anniversary Mass at St. Rose of Lima, 1 Church Street in Jay, at 4 p.m. Following the Mass, a dinner and reception will be held in the parish hall.

Franklin County donors who have not given blood recently and those who would like to donate for the first time still have time to make a dent in low summer inventories. There is a blood drive today in Strong at the Forster Memorial Building at 14 South Main Street, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. On August 23, Franklin Memorial Hospital will hold one from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in Farmington, at 111 Franklin Health Commons.
