Boys tennis: Winthrop sinks Hall-Dale, rolls into C South final

Doubles teams shift momentum in regional semifinal victory.

Lewiston makes its fifth straight regional final appearance, will face either Bangor or Brunswick on Tuesday at Bates College.

Mick Gurney and Mt. Blue’s doubles teams steer the Cougars past the Brunswick Dragons with a 4-1 victory in a Class A North quarterfinal.

Blue Devils win the girls match against Hampden 5-0, while boys defeat Mt. Ararat 4-1.

After a year with no program, Ramblers are top team in Class C South.

Both top seeds Nick Forester (Falmouth) and Grace Campanella (Kennebunk-Wells) are into the semis.

Tenth-seeded Lewiston sophomore is the only local player to reach second day of competition.

Phoenix freshman Owen Bryant prevails and teammate Cam Cain nearly comes out on top in grueling match as Spruce Mountain shakes off Carrabec, 3-2.

For singles players from the two schools, Tuesday’s matches were practice before the Round of 48 begins Friday.
