Western Maine Staff Writer

Bethel is a town where the common is uncommon; where Brooks Bros. sells pliers and wrenches, Victoria’s Secret is a chocolate raspberry dessert, and the Timberland Outlet is an exit for logging trucks. Astride the Androscoggin River, nestled at the base of Paradise Hill, Bethel is truly “just this side of Paradise.” Most rural villages are one industry towns. Bethel is a rare blend of farming, forestry, woods product manufacturing, education, and tourism.” -Wende Gray

We are looking for an individual to immerse themselves in this community, form relationships, and write from the vantage point of a local, with the critical eye, accuracy, and balance of a journalist. We have an opening for a full-time staff writer/photographer to cover both the hard news and features from Bethel across Oxford County. We need a self-starter, able to find your own stories, write 8-10 articles a week on hard deadlines, with the knowledge and ability to work independently. Is that you?

While experience is preferred, this is an entry level position at the Bethel Citizen Weekly with opportunity for advancement. Relocation is required. Bethel is nestled in the beautiful western Maine region of lakes and mountains with myriad outdoor recreational opportunities, while only being about an hour from Portland’s shops and restaurants.

A comprehensive benefit package is available: Medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance options; 401(k) with company match; paid holidays, vacation, sick time and travel reimbursement. Our Culture: We are respectful, inclusive, curious, collaborative, accountable and we promote safety. If you are interested, please submit a cover letter, resume and writing samples.
