PERU – About 85 businesses and organizations have signed up so far for the River Valley’s first Business Expo.

River Valley Chamber member Yvonne Allen told the River Valley Growth Council board Thursday night that the event, jointly sponsored by the Chamber and the Council, is meant to show people from the area and from away what the area has to offer.

“We want people to know who we are, where we are, and what we are,” she said.

Businesses, municipalities, home-based operations, organizations, historical societies and non-profits from the River Valley’s 10 towns can all take part, she said.

The Expo, scheduled for Sept. 26 and Sept. 27, will take place at Mountain Valley High School, inside and outside the building.

Allen said the first night will be devoted to networking opportunities for participants, followed by a reception at the Eagles Hall.

The second day will be open to the public.

Research conducted by Chamber members of other regional business expos has shown that about 3,000 people are expected to attend.

She said several other chambers of commerce have also signed up.

The advertising campaign for the area’s first such event will include newspaper sections, radio and posters, both inside the region and outside.

The event is meant to boost the economy of the area, and to let people know the variety of businesses, services and organizations available in the River Valley.

Registrations are being taken at the River Valley Chamber of Commerce.
