LEWISTON – Beacon Hospice and Palliative Care of Lewiston announces a volunteer training session scheduled to begin Thursday, Nov. 6, at its second-floor office, 55 Lisbon St.
Beacon volunteers are required to complete a seven-session, comprehensive training to prepare them for the hospice volunteer experience. Each three-hour session, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., will feature a presentation by a different hospice discipline, and the areas explored will include hospice philosophy, pain management, spirituality, bereavement, communication, family dynamics and volunteer rights and responsibilities.
“Volunteers play a key role in the care of all our hospice patients and their families; we have patients who can truly benefit from a visit with someone willing to giving just a little time,” said Donna Rousseau, volunteer coordinator. “Helping someone write the final chapter of his or her life is a privilege and I am looking forward to working with people from our community who are ready to take up the challenge and become a member of our hospice team.”
The training is free and a light supper is provided at each. For additional information regarding session dates or other concerns, or to obtain a volunteer application, contact Rousseau at 784-4242.
