BETHEL – Two cars were totaled and a tractor-trailer truck damaged in an accident at the intersection of routes 2 and 26 Tuesday afternoon.

“No one was hurt. It was just a lot of wrecks,” said Police Chief Darren M. Tripp.

No citations were issued.

The accident occurred when Jennifer Buck, 25, of Bethel exited the Rite-Aid driveway onto Route 2 in her 1999 Toyota sedan, and collided with a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Kenneth Coonrod, 73, of Willsboro, N.Y.

High snowbanks along the road and glaring sun were cited by Tripp for Buck’s failure to see Coonrod’s oncoming vehicle.

Coonrod’s and Buck’s vehicles hit corner to corner and the impact spun Buck’s car around in circles until it ended up back where she started, in the pharmacy’s driveway, Tripp said.

Coonrod’s Blazer veered into a 2003 Freightliner tractor-trailer rig, which was stopped on Route 26, waiting to enter Route 2.

The rig, driven by Randolph A. Vien, 25, of Pittsfield, N.H., sustained $3,500 damage. It was driven from the scene after a Maine Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officer inspected it.

The two totaled cars were towed.
