BARNSTEAD, N.H. (AP) – Two children who got lost in the woods near their home Saturday night were found safe several hours later.

Travis Treloar, 9, and his sister, Sarah, 7, were having dinner on their porch when they decided to go into the woods to search for an old bench someone had told them about, said Fish and Game Sgt. Randy Hillsgrove.

“They became disoriented almost immediately and lost,” he said.

The children’s mother, a volunteer firefighter, notified Fish and Game. A search involving state and local authorities and a police dog began shortly after 6 p.m, and the children were found about two hours later.

Hillsgrove said the siblings were about half a mile from their home. They apparently had ended up in a swampy area and were wet but otherwise unharmed.
