LEWISTON – The annual Geiger/Montello “Night of the Stars” celebration, in its 17th year, will take place on Wednesday, May 4, at Lewiston Middle School auditorium, 75 Central Ave.

The “Night of the Stars” is the crowning event put on by the Geiger/Montello Partnership, dedicated to raising aspirations and recognizing excellence among the student body of Montello Elementary School.

The Oscar-style celebration will honor 90 Montello students representing kindergarten through grade six as this year’s Star Writers. Honored students will arrive by stretch limousine between 5:30 and 6 p.m., followed by a two-hour award ceremony.

Maine’s First Lady, Karen Baldacci, will be on hand to join in the festivities and former First Lady and noted children’s advocate Barbara Bush has also authored a letter of congratulations to the honorees.

“The very best education is when communities celebrate an accomplishment,” said Peter Geiger, executive vice president and founder of the Geiger/Montello Partnership. “This particular evening is perhaps the finest celebration of any elementary school anywhere in the United States.”

The theme for this year’s gala event is “Writers Achieve … One Step at a Time.” The venue will be decorated in a mountain-climbing motif, complimenting the real “stars” of the evening, the 90 honored students whose works were selected as the “best of the best” from among 870 students.

The public is welcome to attend.
