HARTFORD, Conn. – Jamie Walker scored on a 25-yard run in overtime to give Bates its first win of the season with a a 30-29 victory over Wesleyan on Saturday.

Wesleyan scored eight plays later in the extra period on Phil Banks’ 2-yard run but failed to connect on a pass for the 2-point try, sealing the win for Bates (1-3).

Walker finished with 100 yards on the ground on 19 attempts for Bates. The winning score was his first TD of the day as Bates rallied with 17 unanswered points to erase a 16-6 halftime deficit.

Brandon Conlon threw for 170 yards and two touchdowns for Bates, which improves to 3-2 in overtime games.

Phil Banks had two rushing TDs for Wesleyan (0-4) and quarterback Zach Librizzi tossed on TD pass and ran for another score.

Because of field conditions Wesleyan due to heavy rains the past week, the game was played on the turf field at Trinity in Hartford.

Bowdoin 21, Hamilton 7

BRUNSWICK – Lamont White returned an interception 75 yards for a touchdown and the Bowdoin defense held Hamilton to 10 first downs in a 21-7 victory on Saturday.

Hamilton (1-3) scored at 12:43 of the first quarter on a 25-yard run by Claudius Zorokong.

Amherst 28, Colby 9

WATERVILLE – Nick Kehoe passed for 196 yards and two touchdowns and Mark Hannon caught five passes for 142 yards to lead Amherst to a 28-9 victory over Colby on Saturday.

Colby (3-1) took a 2-0 lead with a safety in the first quarter when a snap from center went over the punter’s head and out of the end zone. The Mules took a 9-0 lead on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Justin Smith to Roddy Ames with 2:20 left in the half.

Fitchburg St. 21, Maine Maritime 0

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Corey Hetherman passed for 145 yards and two touchdowns as Fitchburg State beat Maine Maritime while playing at its renovated home field for the first time this season.

Hetherman was 17 of 24 with a 15-yard scoring strike to Bob Hirko in the first quarter and a 4-yard scoring pass to Justin Sleeper in the fourth. Brian Milleisen had 151 yards rushing for Fitchburg State (5-1, 3-0 NEFC).

Husson 40, Suny-Maritime 0

BANGOR – Rookie running back Julius Williams had 117 yards on 16 carries with three touchdowns to carry the load as Husson stampeded Sun-Maritime 40-0 in football action on Saturday.

The Eagles’ (2-2) defense held the Privateers’ (1-2) run option to just 143 total yards and 10 first downs. The Eagles forced four turnovers, three fumbles and one interception.

Field hockey

Bowdoin 4, Connecticut College 1

BRUNSWICK – Lindsay McNamara scored the go-ahead goal off a feed from Taryn King at the 16:10 mark in the first half as Bowdoin remains undefeated with a 4-1 win against Connecticut College in a field hockey game on Saturday. Bowdoin (10-0) also received goals from Meaghan Maguire, Allyson Craib and Hillary Hoffman. Connecticut drew first blood when Cairlin Connolly scored on a pass from Jill Mauer.

Bates 2, Wesleyan 1

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Sophomore Erin Chandler scored the game-winner in overtime as Bates upset Wesleyan with a 2-1 victory in field hockey action on Saturday.

Chandler now leads the Bobcats (4-6) with five goals this season. Chandler took a pass outside the circle on the left, cut into the middle and fired a shot from eight yards out for the winner. Cardinal (7-3) junior Molly Adams had tied the game with her team-high eighth goal of the year with only 2:31 left in regulation.

Men’s soccer

Vermont 1, Maine 0

HAMPDEN – Jordan Crasilneck found the back of the net at the 30:54 mark in the first half to power the Vermont Catamounts to a 1-0 victory over University of Maine in a men’s soccer game on Saturday.

Vermont’s (10-4-1) Halvor Mikkelsen had an assist, while goaltender Tom Critz stopped all seven shots he faced to ear the shutout.

USM 4, UMass-Dartmouth 1

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Southern Maine took a 3-1 halftime lead and made it stand up for a 4-1 LEC men’s soccer victory over the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Adam Bial gave the Huskies (3-7-2) a 1-0 lead when he scored from the corner of the penalty box 2:40 into the game.

Women’s soccer

Bowdoin 3, Connecticut College 1

BRUNSWICK – Ivy Blackmore and Katherine Donoghue each scored a goal in the second half to lift Bowdoin to a 3-1 victory over Connecticut College in women’s soccer on Saturday.

Bates 3, Wesleyan 0

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Junior Kim Alexander scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season to get things rolling for Bates just 3:31 into the game as the Bobcats rolled to a 3-0 win over Wesleyan in women’s soccer action on Saturday.

Junior Jessie Gargiulo tallied her sixth of the season at 13:18 to put the Bobcats (8-3) up 2-0. Amy Werblin netted the second goal of her career just before the half for the final margin.
