LEWISTON – The Lewiston High School Alumni Foundation, incorporated in 1999 to help support seniors pursuing higher education and to build pride and create opportunities in the school community, is working on plans for this year’s scholarships.

Each year, the foundation attempts to increase its support to the school. In 2000 the group awarded four scholarships of $1,500 each. To date, 65 seniors have received foundation scholarships worth a total of $124,500.

The awards are becoming highly regarded by graduating seniors, as they recognize not only the achievements of the graduates during their high school careers, but also the devotion that so many alumni have for their alma mater and the students attending Lewiston High School.

The foundation will hold election of officers at its next meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at the high school. Anyone interested in helping the organization continue its support of graduates is encouraged to attend. For more information, contact President Sharon Martel at 783-7269 or Vice President Jon Mennealy at 375-8105.

The foundation is supported also by the public and corporations that acknowledge the importance of a strong education. Anyone wishing to contribute may send donations to LHS Alumni Foundation, c/o Lewiston High School, 156 East Ave., Lewiston, ME 04240.
