RUMFORD – The Sundown Squadron, Civil Air Patrol, has had a busy winter, and members are looking forward to more activities during the warmer months.

Cadets Jeremy Pillsbury and Bobby Wilson attended winter survival at the Bangor Air National Guard. Training was done during the day, and at night the cadets put their skills to use while camping outside.

In order to be promoted, cadets need to pass physical fitness, leadership and aerospace tests. Promotions include Alessandra Kroger and Jeremy Pillsbury to cadet airman, Bobby Wilson to airman first class, Brennan Kroger to senior airman and Megan Arsenault to technical sergeant.

Cadets David Bellegarde and Megan Arsenault earned community service ribbons for their volunteer work. Bellegarde is an active junior firefighter with the Rumford Fire Department and Arsenault has raised funds for two years for World Vision, a project that fights world hunger.

Civil Air Patrol is open to new members. Teenagers ages 12 to 18 can join as cadets. Senior members, who are over 18, help with the supervision of cadets and with the missions of aerospace education and search and rescue.

Meetings are held at the Rumford American Legion each Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. For more information, call Barbara Arsenault at 562-7783 or e-mail firstltarsenault@localnet.com.
