DIXFIELD – More than 60 Maine musicians performed country, gospel, folk and bluegrass music during the recent Countryfolk Music Theatre’s Youth Music Scholarship weekend. They raised several hundred dollars that go directly to youth music scholarships.
Receiving scholarships were Patrick Libby of Livermore Falls, Travis Pinkham of Farmington, Kayla Wass of Hampden, Levi Brogna of Greene and Sami Davis of Livermore in memory of the Parisians of West Paris.
Special guest artists were Liz Decker of Lisbon, Kayla Wass of Hampden, Ginger Mae of Corinna, Rik Palieri of Vermont, bagpiper Jeff Herbster of Brunswick and Robin Right with her Tammy Wynette tribute show.
Larry Bisbee, director of the project, said, “We had great weather, great talent, young and old, and a super crowd of several hundred who support our western Maine volunteer music project here in East Dixfield.”
“The free banjo for beginners workshop was well attended,” he said. “We would like to do more with the workshops, especially for beginner. It’s something we can offer each year.” Bisbee said, “Our mini-museum was well visited, with new additions of memorabilia each month. We’ve already outgrown our ‘woodshed-turned-museum’ and will probably add on soon to accommodate the new photos and display items.”
Thanks to volunteers Ray Fortier and Mike Burnham, the extended parking field was finished in time to use on the weekend.
Countryfolk jam sessions will continue through Labor Day from 5 to 9 p.m. Fridays and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays, free to the public. Bring chairs, food and beverage. Countryfolk Music Theatre does not sell concession items. For more information, call 645-4875 or visit www.countryfolkmusic.com.
