Fair canceled
LEWISTON – The Lewiston Senior Citizens annual November craft fair that was to be held at the Multi-Purpose Center on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 2 and 3, has been canceled.
Remembrance
LISBON – VFW Post 9459 will host the Maine Vietnam Veterans Vigil Committee Tree of Hope Ceremony and remembrance of POWs/MIAs from all wars at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at the post home, Route 196. A special tribute will be given to World War I and World War II veterans. The program will be open to the public. For more information, call the post at 353-5291 Wednesday through Friday after 4 p.m.
Grange night
POLAND – Excelsior Grange 5 will meet at the hall on Harris Hill Road at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, for Legislative Night, with the program under the direction of State Grange Master Steven Verrill. The speaker will be John Robinson, who will explain some of the issues before the legislature. Refreshments will be served after the meeting, and all members and friends are welcome.
Veterans meal
AUBURN – A Veterans Day meal will be served at American Legion Post 426, Washington Street, on Saturday, Nov. 11. The door will open at noon, and the meal will be served at 1 p.m.
Disabled veterans from the South Paris home are invited as honored guests. The Silver-Tones musical group will entertain. Members, veterans and relatives are welcome.
Those who wish to attend the meal must phone Bob St. Pierre at 783-2340 after 4 p.m. or Lee Koss at 783-6396 prior to Wednesday, Nov. 8. A $4 donation will be asked to defray the cost of food. Those who do not wish to eat are also welcome.
No MS meeting
LEWISTON – There will not be a regular MS Support Group and Caregivers meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 8, because most members will attending the MS Society’s annual meeting at the Hilton Garden Inn that evening. If anyone has issues that they would like to talk to someone about, they can call Andy Michaud at 784-7927 or Ron Pomerleau at 783-1863.
Teachers to meet
AUBURN – The Androscoggin Retired Educators Association will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, at Central Maine Community College, Turner Street.
Catherine Sullivan of MEA-R will speak on the MSRS Benefits Trust. The afternoon speaker will be Dennis Stires on “Learning in the Good Old Days.”
The luncheon will be a choice of breast of chicken for $8.75 or baked Boston scrod for $9.50. Reservations for the luncheon should be sent to George and Pat Jacobs, 4 Sprague Mills Road, Greene, ME 04236. Any retired educator is welcome.
Thanksgiving meal
LEWISTON – Hope Haven Gospel Mission, 209 Lincoln St., will offer a free Thanksgiving dinner between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 23. The meal will be available to shut-ins as well. They should call 783-6086 for meal delivery.
Bridge play
LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Oct. 23 were: first, Richard Balian and Luke Merry; second, Helen Little and Alberta Turner; third/fourth tie, Marlene and Conrad Violette with Linda Leotsakos and Jan Arey; fifth, Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer; second in C, Claire Tewhey and Charlie Bartlett.
Winners on Oct. 30 were: N/S, first, Dick Allen and Woody Mercier; second, Eileen Potvin and Della Starbird; third, Sue Kaluzynski and Rosemarie Goodwin; second in B, Marlene and Conrad Violette.
E/W, first, Lucille Bilodeau and Luke Merry; second, Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer; third, Linda Leotsakos and Jan Arey; first in B, Alberta Turner and Helen Little.
Games are played at 9 a.m. Mondays, a mini-lesson is given, and a partner is guaranteed. Call Rosemarie at 783-1735 for information about all bridge games.
Bridge winners
NEW GLOUCESTER – The New Gloucester Bridge Club met Oct. 29 at the Masonic Building where a five-table Howell movement was played. Finishing first in Flight A and B were Marta Clements and Claire Lyons; second in Flight A, Bunny Banks and Dottie Kelleher; third in Flight A and second in Flight B, Eileen Potvin and Della Starbird; fourth in Flight A, Nancy Farmer and Mike Newsome.
There will be no game on Nov. 5 due to the state championship in Brunswick. The next game will be Nov. 12. All bridge players are welcome. For information, call Les Buzzell at 783-4153. A partner is guaranteed.
