PARIS – David W. Ivey and Glen W. Young have won the Paris selectmen’s race by a comfortable margin, according to returns from the vote on Tuesday.

Results from the electronic reader show both Young and Ivey received 589 votes.

Barbara Payne, the board’s chairwoman who was running for re-election, received 350 votes.

Harry L. Sims received 148 votes, and George F. Coffren Jr., received 142. There were also 120 blank ballots cast and two write-in votes.

Town Clerk Elizabeth Larson said the new selectmen’s terms begin Saturday at the annual town meeting.

The town narrowly passed a controversial subdivision ordinance, with 487 voting for the ordinance and 468 against. The proposed comprehensive plan also passed by 540 votes to 420.

The ordinance, which controls the splitting of land into three or more lots or dwelling units within a three-year period, will update the current subdivision ordinance, which was adopted in 1976. The comprehensive plan compiles information on the town and makes recommendations for its future growth and development.

The documents, which both went into their final draft on May 11, have been the subject of several public hearings.

Albert T. Dignan won an uncontested race for a three-year term as trustee with the Paris Utility District. There was no candidate for a two-year PUD trustee term, but there were 77 write-in votes for the position.

The town also passed nine articles related to the funding of SAD 17.
