AUBURN – Kelly A. Davis was named the sixth recipient of the Larry Marczak Memorial Scholarship at Edward Little High School on June 8. The award was announced by Virginia Marczak.
Davis was presented a $2,000 check. In addition, her name will be engraved along with the previous recipients on a plaque that hangs in the school’s main lobby.
A graduate of the class of 2007, Davis will attend the University of Connecticut in the fall, pursuing a double major of vocal presentation and pre-med.
Applicants were asked to provide a list of activities and achievements as well as recommendation letters. They were also asked to write an essay explaining how they had made a difference in someone’s life or in the community during the high school years. Davis wrote about her experiences with the Maine Handicapped Skiing program at Sunday River.
The scholarship was established to honor Marczak’s 33-year commitment to education. The board consists of teachers who worked with Marczak, as well as members of the family. The scholarship is intended to be given annually and is supported by private donations.
