YORK – Mark Plummer captured the 2007 New England Senior Championship Thursday after a 2-hole playoff at York Golf & Country Club. With the victory Plummer becomes the first player in NEGA history to capture both the New England Amateur and the NE Senior Championships.

The champ capped off the 2-day tournament with a second round score of 77, 7 over par. That put him in a tie with Greg Karakashian of Stanley GC in Connecticut. On the second playoff hole, Plummer drained a 16-foot putt to win the title.

Prior to that dramatic shot, Plummer struggled all day. He quickly ran into trouble with 2 bogeys, 1 double bogey and 1 birdie for a 3-over par 38 on the front 9. On the back 9, 2 bogeys, 1 birdie and an uncharacteristic triple bogey on the 200-yard, par 3, 14th hole, opened the door for the rest of the field.

At the end of the round, Plummer, Karakashian and Ken Moller of Brentwood Golf Club in New Hampshire, were all tied for first with a 145. Moller was eliminated on the first playoff hole and that set the stage for Plummer’s birdie on the second hole.

Ron Murray of Val Halla GC fnished in a tie for fourth at +6.

In the Super Senior Division (65-older), Jim Holbrook of Ferncroft CC in Massachusetts stormed from behind with a final round of 4-over par 74 to claim the title. He finished in a tie with Fred Kask of Weathersfield, Conn., but Kask suffered an injury and was unable to participate in the playoff.
