WATERVILLE – Maurice Clark, president of Maine Sports Legends, has announced that 11 individuals have been selected for induction into the Legends’ Hall of Honors. In addition, 8 scholar-athletes will be presented with scholarships at the banquet set for Sunday, Oct. 7 at Alfond Youth Center. The event will begin at 12 noon, following the organizations’s annual meeting.

Maine Sports Legends uses proceeds from the banquet to fund $500 scholarships for 1 male and 1 female senior high school student from each of the organization’s 4 regions. That includes Northern, Eastern, Central-Western and South-Midcoast Maine. One outstanding female student will also receive an additional $1,000 Maryanne Beaudry scholarship.

Hall of Honors inductees selected for service to Maine youth are: Southern Maine, Philip “Jack” Dawson of Portland; Rodney Wotton, York; Mike Landry, posthumously, Biddeford; Central-Western, Ken Walsh, executive director of Alfond Youth Center; the late Raymond “Pop” Vear, Winslow; Eastern Maine, Jack Scott and John Coombs, deceased; Northern Maine, William “Bill Casavant, Steve Shaw, and posthumously, James Dyer and Don Smith.

High school scholarship recipients include Owen Smith and Aimee Tetu, Brunswick; Allison Cheever, Cony; Matthew Low, Lawrence; Hannah Breton, Greenville, Bryant Ciomei, Deer Isle, Stonington; Kelsie Bouchard, Fort Kent; Caleb Swanberg, Caribou.
