LEWISTON – The Northeast Athletics Junior Redskins knocked off previously-unbeaten Grimmel’s Gas-Up Giants 19-14 Sunday in the Football League for Youth (FLY)

Dante Brooks scored twice and William Adams added a TD run behind the blocking of Chase Tapley, Zachary Gosselin and Nathan Albert. Leading the Redskin defense were Tyler Palmer, Devon Iler, Noah Francis and Brooks. Ohers having a fine game were Sean O’Donnell, Jr., and Colby Desjardins. Standouts for the Giants were Quintarian Brown, Kevin Dillingham and Dimitrius Schneider.

In the other Junior contest, the Don Morin’s Photo Lions kept the Steelers winless with a 31-0 victory. Sheon James and Bodhi McKellick each tallied 2 touchdowns, while Ace Curry added the final score behind the fine blocking of Tyson Cote, Colby Bilodeau, Josh Kobel and Nick Provencher. Assisting in the shutout were Legend Edwards, James, Curry, Desmond Jackson and Chris Thomas. Having a fine game for the Steelers were Stone Colby, Ben Bolduc and Isaac Escobar.

Senior Division

The Lisbon Street Getty Mart Senior Lions improved to 5-0 with a 29-0 shutout of the Giants in a makeup contest. Casey Thurlow and Derrick Peters were the workhorses for the ‘Skins, Thurlow rushing for 98-yards, including an 8-yard TD, while Peters scored from 23- and 5-yards out. Kevin St. Pierre tallied the final TD on a 6-yard run. Stephen Hinkley converted 2-point conversions on passes to Jeffrey Clark and Erik Wilson. Offensive standouts were Letavian Sands, Brent Freve and Nelson Goyette. St. Pierre and Thurlow each had multiple tackles. Eddie Denis also contributed to the shutout. Playing well for the Giants were Josh Thomas, Matt Snyder and Brady Whetzel.

In the other Senior game, the Steelers beat winless Compass Coin Lions 34-12. Matt Wooten threw touchdown passes to Shane Baker and Jacob Kendall and also scored on the ground. Shining on defense were Paul Fernald and Tyler Span. Standouts for the Lions were Devin Bilodeau, Chris Cummings, Zachary Bartshe and Zeb French.

Playoffs begin Sunday, as follows: 8:30, Junior Giants vs Lions; 10:00, Senior Steelers vs Giants; 11:30, Junior Redskins vs Steelers; 1:00, Senior Redskins vs Lions.

SOUTH PARIS – Oxford Hills edged Auburn Recs 14-12 in recent action in the Western Maine Seventh-Eighth-Grade Football League. The score was incorrectly reported to the Sun-Journal. OH is now 2-2, and Auburn 1-3.
