PORTLAND – A concert of music by Harold Stover will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 17, in the sanctuary of Woodfords Congregational Church.

The program includes the Portland premieres of “Celtic Invocations” for voice and piano, “Nocturnes, Book III” for trumpet, organ and percussion, “Souvenir” for piano and “Sayings of Jesus” for voice and organ; the world premiere of “Chaconne for piano;” and other works for chorus.

Guest artists are Rhee Michelle, soprano; Kathleen Grammer, mezzo-soprano; John Schnell, trumpet; Nancy Smith, percussion; the Chancel Choir of Woodfords Church; and Renaissance Voices.

The concert commemorates the 15th anniversary of Stover’s leadership as organist and director of music at Woodfords Church and his 40-year career as an organist, conductor, choirmaster, international performer, writer, teacher and composer.

Stover also directs the chamber chorus Renaissance Voices and serves on the faculty of the Portland Conservatory of Music. His compositions include liturgical and contemporary choral and vocal works; chamber, orchestral, keyboard and electronic music; and film scores.
