JAY – Edwin Thompson, former division I college player at the University of Maryland as well as professional baseball player for the Bangor Lumberjacks and current assistant coach at the University of Maine at Farmington, will be conducting his fourth-annual baseball camp.

The camp runs June 23-26 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Jay High School.

The camp will include hitting, fielding, throwing, pitching, base running, team play and much more. Each day the campers will play games using the skills that they have learned all campers will be placed in age and ability levels.

The final day of the camp will feature a variety of competitions for each age group to be able to win prizes. There will also be daily and weekly prizes that have included autographs from Major League Baseball players such as Jonathan Papelbon, Curt Schilling and C.C. Sabathia, sunglasses, batting gloves, fielding gloves, t-shirts and much more.

The camp staff will include current local college baseball, players from the University of Maine, USM, Thomas, and UMF. Severeral coaches will attend, and a certified athletic trainer on hand all week.

The camp is open to boys age six through those entering ninth grade in the fall of 2008.

The camp costs $90, which includes a camp T-shirt and water bottle. Family and team rates are also available.

Softball clinic at Telstar

BETHEL – Higher Ground Softball of Georgia will host a softball clinic June 27-29 at Telstar Regional High School. The second-annual clinic is for players ages 10-19. Sessions are designed with age group and skill level restrictions so that beginner, intermediate and advanced players will have appropriate topics and activities. Players and coaches will leave with drills and activities they can use throughout their season and off-season.

Players’ fee is $160 and includes the three-day clinic fee and a T-shirt. An $80 pre-registration fee is non-refundable. Coaches’ fee is $35, due with registration, and includes a T-shirt.
