The aging owners of the Day’s Jewelry store chain, which includes a store on Lewiston’s Lisbon Street, say they will sell their business soon because it is becoming too much for them to handle.

“It’s breaking my heart, but I’m 80 and my brother is 76 and we have no children who can run the chain,” said Sydney A. Davidson, who runs the business with his brother David.

The eight stores are located in Portland, Biddeford, Augusta and Berlin N.H., as well as Lewiston.

The chain was established in 1914 by Harry Davidson, the father, and grew to include 25 stores throughout Northern New England. The Vermont stores have closed and only one New Hampshire store is open.
