AUBURN — Auburn Bancorp and Auburn Savings Bank have announced that director and former president and CEO August Berta has formally retired from the board of directors.
He began his tenure at Auburn Savings Bank as president, CEO and director in 1981 after several years as president of Bayside Federal Saving and Loan in Bayside, N.Y., and vice president of New York Suburban Bank in Scarsdale, N.Y.
During his time as president and CEO of Auburn Savings, he was known as a highly-detailed, well-organized executive. He served on the executive committee of the Maine Association of Community Banks from 1993-1996.
He lives in Auburn with his wife.
