WOOLWICH, Maine (AP) — A Maine contractor has been awarded a $10 million contract to design and build the first commercial-scale wind power project in Massachusetts.

Reed & Reed, based in Woolwich, will begin work this summer on the 10-turbine project in the western Massachusetts town of Hancock. It was selected for the job by the Berkshire Wind Power Cooperative Corp.

The 15-megawatt project is scheduled for completion next summer.

Reed & Reed last year completed the 57-megawatt Stetson Wind project in northern Maine. It is now working on a 44-turbine project on Kibby Mountain in western Maine, which will be the largest wind power project in New England.
