Cards for soldiers

BETHESDA, Md. — Send a wounded soldier a Christmas card. When filling out Christmas cards this year, take one card, or more, and send to: A Recovering American Soldier, c/o Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, 8901 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, Md., 20889-5600. This is a small way to say thank you to those who have sacrificed so much.

Coats for Kids

FARMINGTON — Franklin Savings Bank’s Farmington location sponsored Coats for Kids Day on Dec. 3. Collection boxes at all Franklin Savings Bank locations are available through Dec. 30.

In addition to the main office in Farmington, Franklin Savings Bank will have collection boxes at its locations in Jay, Rangeley, Skowhegan, Rumford, Mexico and Wilton as well as Western Mountain Financial Services on Front Street in Farmington.

Santa’s Workshop

WILTON — Santa’s Workshop will take place from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 59 High St. Arrive early for best selection.

Santa’s Workshop provides community children with an affordable alternative while shopping for gifts during the holidays.

Adults can enjoy refreshments in “Santa’s Kitchen” as youth shop Santa’s Workshop of new and gently-used items for gifts for their loved ones.

No items cost more than $1, and kids receive free custom gift-wrapping before leaving Santa’s Workshop. Call 645-2639 for more information or to make donations of items.

Trinity supper

FARMINGTON — Trinity United Methodist Church will hold a public baked bean, casserole and pie supper from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at the church on the Farmington Falls Road or Route 2 East.

Knights supper

JAY — A free public supper will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 148 Main St.

The menu includes ham, potatoes, vegetables, soup, dessert, coffee and soft drinks. Donations will be accepted but are not required. Doors will open at noon for games and socializing.

An elevator is available at the back door.

Worship service

FARMINGTON — On Sunday, Dec. 11, at the 9 a.m. worship service at the Farmington Falls Union Baptist Church there will be a special dedication of hymnals given to the church by family and friends of Grace Bachelder Butterfield Burton.

This particular Sunday was chosen as it is the closest Sunday to her Dec. 9 birthday.

This is a memorable Sunday for Reverend John R. Tolman Sr. Fifty years ago his Service of Ordination to the Christian ministry by the Union Evangelical Church of Greenville with The Penobscot Association of Congregational Christian Churches and Ministers was held on Sunday, Dec. 10, 1961, in Greenville.

On Sunday, Christmas Day, there will be an hour of Christmas hymns and readings which will begin at 9 a.m. with piano and harmonica music by Maurice and Dave Hovey. There will be no sermon; possibly a short meditation.
