LISBON — Lisbon went into Wednesday night’s game with Wiscasset determined to finish on both ends of the floor.

The Greyhounds showed they can start pretty well, too.

Lisbon jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never let up, controlling the Wolverines throughout a 37-21 win at Manchester Gymnasium.

“Our coach pumped us up in the locker room before the game,” said Alexa Harmon, who led all scorers with 11 points. “We really wanted this win. We want to keep winning.”

“We need to execute,” Lisbon coach Julie Wescott said, “They’ve been doing a better job in practice in terms of thinking and taking advantage of the defense and just not playing scared and attacking the basket and finishing. I think they did that well tonight.”

Harmon sparked the Greyhounds with a pair of 3-pointers in the 10-0 start.

“It’s important for her to get a couple of shots, and then it’s like her whole game comes together,” Wescott said.

The Wolverines missed their first 11 shots to start, thanks in part to Wiscasset’s stifling defense in the low post against senior center Kayla Connors (six points, 11 rebounds).

“We didn’t do so well against the Connors girl the first time, so we focused on just playing really good help side defense and doubling down on her and limiting her touches,” Wescott said.

Denise Thomas (15 rebounds) dominated the glass to further limit Wiscasset’s touches.

“They played a lot harder than we did at the beginning of the game,” Wiscasset coach Patrick Quinn said. “It’s all about where (Connors) catches it on the block. Good teams push her off the spot that she wants. If she catches it on the block, she’s very effective.”

Connors finally got Wiscasset on the board 5:14 into the game with a putback of her own miss. Thomas’ putback and a runner by Baley Madore drove the lead up to 14-2, but the Wolverines were able to connect on their last three shots of the period. Briana Goud’s three-point play helped them pull to within six at the end of the quarter.

Wiscasset stayed within that range for much of the rest of the half until hoops by Jennifer Smith and Harmon drove Lisbon’s lead back into double digits to stay just before halftime.

Harmon’s third 3-pointer helped the Greyhounds inflate the cushion to 16 at the end of three. Wiscasset, which shot 16 percent for the game, missed its first eight shots of the fourth quarter and never threatened.

Madore finished with eight points for Lisbon, while Thomas, Sarah Giraldo, Haley Eck and Jessica Campbell all chipped in with four points apiece.
