Legion holding meeting

LEWISTON — Post 22 American Legion Lewiston will hold its monthly membership meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at the Lewiston Multi Purpose Center, 145 Birch St.

This meeting is for the purpose of nominating and electing officers for 2012-13. All members attending must have a paid-up membership card for 2012. Unit 22 Auxiliary will meet at 5:15 p.m. There will be a lunch plus a 50/50 raffle and prizes will be awarded.

Sodality to meet

LEWISTON — The Ladies of St. Joseph’s Queens Guild Sodality will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Holy Cross Senior Hall. Turner Library fundraiser

TURNER — Turner Public Library is raising funds by donations during the Celebration of Spring at Leavitt Institute Building, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21.

There will be book readings and signings by author and illustrator at 10 a.m.; 15 vendors; three seminars on conservation, raised garden beds and window boxes from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; a children’s program on All Things Faeries and Make It-Take It at 10:30; wood carving demonstration at 11; quilt sale all day; Earth Day/May Day Pole at 12:30 p.m. at the Gazebo on the Green; coffee and donuts from 9 to 10:30 a.m.; and lunch from 11 a.m. to noon.

Mother-son dance

LISBON FALLS — The first annual Lisbon Mother-Son Mother’s Day Dance, sponsored by Lisbon Promotions Committee and the Lisbon Recreation Department, is planned for Saturday, May 12, at the MTM Center. The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.

Advance ticket sales will be available on Monday, April 23, through Wednesday, May 9. Tickets $10 per couple, $4 each additional child; available at the Lisbon Recreation Department. Tickets will be available at the door for $15 per couple and $5 for each additional child.

The event will feature a DJ, dancing, refreshments and door prizes. Mother-son portraits will be available for purchase by a professional photographer. The dance is open for mothers and sons of all ages.

Taxes records for genealogy

NORTH YARMOUTH — The North Yarmouth Historical Society will present “How Taxes Can Be a Good Thing: Using Tax Records in Genealogy” with Dr. Carol McCoy at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 23, at North Yarmouth Memorial School, Route 9.

Old tax records provide valuable clues to ancestors’ lives. In the early days of America, people were taxed on their property. Collected taxes were used to repair and build roads, to support the military and to provide revenue for many reasons. Learn about the types of tax records that may be available, where to look for them and how they can help solve genealogy problems.

St. Joseph’s College fair

AUBURN — Saint Joseph’s College will sponsor an open educational and career services fair featuring information about its programs on Tuesday, April 24, from noon to 7 p.m., at the Hilton Garden Inn, 14 Great Falls Plaza.

The fair will give area residents a chance to learn more about the college’s on-campus undergraduate programs, undergraduate and graduate online programs for working adults, career planning tips, financial aid and customized training for working adults. Representatives from admissions, financial aid and career services will be on hand.

Legion installed officers

AUBURN — American Legion Post 31 will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 26.

Installation of officers was held recently with Commandant Roger Torres opening the meeting. Past Department Commandant Charlie Millett and Sgt.-at-Arms Richard Stretton conducted the installation.

New officers are Commandant Raymond Lemieux, Sr. Vice Cmdr. Robert MacDonald, Jr. Vice Cmdr. Charles Paul and Judge Advocate Roger Torres.

American Legion Post 31 has announced that it is the new home for the Marine Corps League. Meetings are the last Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m.
