Two “cowboys,” Fitzgerald and Howard, were arrested by Franklin County Sheriff Small on Saturday evening on a charges of breaking and entering and larceny. One room at the Franklin County jail at Farmington now resembles an armory with revolvers, rifles, heavy cartridge belts, etc., which were taken from the camp which the young men occupied at Devil’s Elbow. Nitroglycerin also was found by the officers in the camp. The prisoners only had 13 cents on their persons when taken, which proved to be the unlucky number for them. Harry Jewell of Farmington reports that on the road to Strong last Thursday he saw three young men in cowboy fashion and one of them asked him to stop. Jewell whipped the horse and hurried on. (A photo of the two young men in full cowboy costume was printed with the story.)

Auburn County Commissioners approved pay increases for management and general government employees Wednesday, but did not take any action to improve the pay scale. Commission Chairman Carol Boyce recommended that step increases under the existing pay scale, plus a 3.7 percent cost of living increase be given to the employees. “We don’t have a printing press to make more money,” she said. Jail Administrator John Lebel pointed out that the increase would still have some sergeants, sheriff’s deputies ands other employees earning more than their supervisors.
