DALLAS PLANTATION — A Rangeley man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after Rangeley police were alerted to an intoxicated man firing a handgun into a tree on Dallas Hill Road.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Steve Lowell said Thursday that Rangeley police took Frank Thompson, 22, into custody until Deputy Nicholas Zecher arrived. Thompson was intoxicated and shooting into a tree and, it is believed, also toward the road, Lowell said.

Thompson is charged with being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and violation of condition of release on an unrelated case, he said.

Thompson is being held at the Franklin County jail and will have to go before a judge to have bail set, a corrections officer said.

His bail on the firearm charge is set at $2,500 cash.
