Bean supper benefits LACO

LISBON — A bean supper will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Masonic Lodge, Route 136 across from River Park.

On the menu are baked beans, chop suey, hot dogs, potato salad, cole slaw, bread, pickles and homemade pies. Prices are $7.50 adults, $3 children ages 5-12, free for children under 5.

The supper is a benefit for Lisbon Area Christian Outreach. Nonperishable food items will be collected.

Meeting of cemetery group

OTISFIELD — On Saturday, Sept. 28, the Maine Old Cemetery Association will meet at the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church, 231 Rayville Road., off Route 121.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The fee is $3. Lunch is $7. Both fees are payable at the door. Lunch reservations must be made prior to Sept. 20. Contact Valerie Sirois at [email protected], or 207-634-2709, or P.O.Box 615, Norridgewock, ME 04957.

The program begins with “Digging Graves in Otisfield,” a talk by Otisfield Historical Society’s archivist, Dr. Jean Hankins, followed by a business meeting.

After the meeting, Dan Peaco, sexton of the Town of Otisfield and president of Elmwood Cemetery, will present “Cemeteries,” a brief talk about Otisfield’s cemeteries, followed by lunch. Elmwood Cemetery, across from the church, contains the monument gravestone of Professor Joe Holden, famous for his theory on the shape of the Earth.

At 1, visits to Elmwood Cemetery, Bell Hill Cemetery, Bell Hill Meetinghouse and School House are planned.
