PORTLAND (AP) — A fire in a commercial building in Portland’s Old Port last week has been ruled accidental.
Investigators said the fire early last Thursday started in a utility area in the basement of the multi-story building on Fore Street.
Several businesses were damaged and residents of upper floor apartments were evacuated but there were no injuries.
The owner of the building had been cited for safety violations, but those unresolved violations did not cause the fire.
The blaze remains under investigation.
