AUBURN — City police will try a bit of community outreach, scheduling a morning coffee meeting March 4 at Rolly’s Diner.
It will be the first of four “Coffee with a Cop” events around the city this year.
“It’s a simple, fun way for the Police Department to connect with our community,” Sgt. Barry Schmieks said. “It’s a way to explore and strengthen our ties to the community and build trust and narrow social distance between the police and members of our community.”
The coffee is scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. at the diner at 87 Mill St.
The Police Department will provide free coffee, and Schmieks said many officers will attend.
“Personally, I’m very excited about Coffee with a Cop,” Schmieks said. “It gives me a chance to get back out in the community I grew up in, reconnect with people I grew up with and have a conversation with someone in a setting where it’s just me and someone having a nice talk.”
