Smith Crossing Reunion Saturday

RUMFORD — The Smith Crossing Reunion will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12, and is open to the public.

There will be hamburgers and hot dogs, and games will be played. Cost is $6 a person, with children 4 and under free.

Daughters to attend Mass

RUMFORD — St. Timothy Circle 504, Daughters of Isabella, will have a corporate communion at the 9:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, July 13, at the Parish of the Holy Savior.

Following the Mass, they will leave for their annual summer social at Angela Arsenault’s home at Roxbury Pond. Bring a lawn chair if possible.

Committee members will call to confirm who will attend the outing. Committee members for the July/August summer social will furnish the luncheon.

Co-chairwomen are Druscilla Breton and Patricia Hopkins. Also on the committee are Jean Wilkens, Jennifer Kreckel and Terry Umbro. Other members who volunteered are Maureen Gile, Dorothy Benedix and Barbara Clarke.

The following will be congratulated on their 25-plus year membership: Mary Morgan, 28 years; Pauline Buckingham, 63 years. Deceased member Rita Coburn will be remembered.

Vacation Bible School next week

CARTHAGE — Carthage Union Church will hold a Vacation Bible School from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday, July 14 through 18, at the church, located at 672 Carthage Road.

There will be Bible classes for children of all ages, including teens. There will be an adult Bible class at the same time. There will crafts and games for the children and healthy snacks will be served.

The theme this year is “SonTreasure Island,” based on 1 Corinthians 13, “God’s Love for Us.” The adults will study 1 John.

Bug out at Rumford library

RUMFORD — On Wednesday, July 9, at 2 p.m. bug out at the Rumford Public Library for an hour of tarantulas, scorpions, giant African millipedes, Madagascan hissing cockroaches and other surprises.

Jim Nutting of the Butterfly and Insect Museum in Lisbon Falls will be special guest. He is a big-time bug enthusiast with a personal collection of thousands of live and mounted insects and has an extensive knowledge of the specimens.

Nutting lives in Auburn and is co-owner of Maine Art Glass Studio in Lisbon Falls.

Area children and their friends are welcome to the free program.
