Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Aaron Capponi retired from the Marine Corps during a ceremony on June 27 at Marine Light/Attack Helicopter Squadron 269, MCAS New River, Jacksonville, N.C., after 20 years of honorable service.

After graduation from Mountain Valley High School, GySgt. Capponi enlisted in September 1994 as a AH-1W and UH-1N Helicopter Mechanic.

His current billet was as the H-1 Quality Assurance Staff Non-Commissioned Officer-in-Charge at Marine Light/Attack Helicopter Squadron 269.

Over the years he filled billets as Flightline Division Chief, Maintenance Control Chief, Phase Maintenance Supervisor and flew in the UH-1N “Huey” Helicopter as an Aerial Observer/Door Gunner.

He has served three tours in Iraq and performed missions in Kosovo and Albania, and more recently supported operations with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit in Okinawa, Japan.

He is married to the former Colleen Martin of Roxbury, and they have two children, Alaina and Rocco.
