Spark’s Ark set for Aug. 5

MEXICO — As part of the Mexico Public Library’s “Terrific Tuesdays” summer programs for kids ages 2-14, the library will host Spark’s Ark with Josh Sparks at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5.

Spark’s Ark is a collection of live animals that have been rescued and rehabilitated by Josh and David Sparks of Windham. This educational program with live animals is for kids of all ages and will be held at the Calvin Lyons Hall, in the basement of the Mexico Town Hall building.

Although the program is free of charge, there will be a donation box available for anyone who would like to contribute to the program.

Author to visit Mexico Library

MEXICO — Author Julie Cohen, a native of Rumford, will be doing a Booktalk on her recent novel, “Dear Thing,” at the Mexico Public Library, 134 Main St., on Wednesday, Aug. 6, beginning at 5:45 p.m.

The public is invited. Refreshments will be served.

If you own a copy of the book, feel free to bring it along for the author to sign. Also, there will be a few copies of the book available for sale that evening.

Lithuanian Heritage Club to meet

RUMFORD — The Lithuanian Heritage Club will meet at noon Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Sam’s Italians on Route 2.

Members are making plans for the annual picnic; all members are encouraged to help with the planning of the upcoming event.

Seniors group plans mystery trip

PERU — Rumford Seniors of Peru are doing a mystery trip on Monday, Aug. 11. The cost is $55 with lunch on your own.

Fall cheering registration open

MEXICO — AYF Cheering for the fall is open to all girls in RSU 10 who are going into the first through eighth grade. The cost is $30 per child, or $20 for those choosing to reuse last year’s T-shirt.

The first practice at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at Meroby Elementary School in Mexico. All girls must be accompanied by an adult to and from every practice, unless special arrangements are made with the coach.

Outdoor market seeking vendors

DIXFIELD — Dixfield’s annual Main Street Outdoor Market is seeking vendors. The all-day market is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine.

The approximate 10-by-15 spaces are filling up so contact Deb at 562-8006 to secure a spot. The fee is $20.

Organizers are looking for ice cream vendors and lemonade vendors. Perhaps classes wish to reserve a spot to do some class fundraising.

The Historical Society will be open on this day. There will be lots of food, including a chicken barbecue and lobster rolls. Many crafted items will be for sale, including jewelry. There will also be antiques and collectibles.

A 5K road race is scheduled for Sunday morning. Interested racers are encouraged to contact Gunner Bradbury at 562-4448.

The Dixfield Congregational Church (Church on the Hill) will host their second annual quilt show. Stop by to check out the beautiful quilts on display as well as for a spot o’ tea.
