Spaghetti supper at Auburn VFW

AUBURN — Auburn VFW at 588 Minot Ave. will have a spaghetti supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for kids under 12.

Harvest supper at West Minot Grange

MINOT — West Minot Grange 42 will hold its annual harvest supper from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11.

Meal will include corned beef, five vegetables and gingerbread with real whipped cream.

AUBURN — A spaghetti supper and bottle drive will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Sixth Street Congregational Church, 109 Sixth St.

Cost is $7 for adults, $4 for ages 5-10 and free for under 5.

Tickets are available at the door.

Takeout will be available.

Proceeds will benefit Boy Scouts Troop 007.

Seaman’s chanties concert in Minot

MINOT — Minot Historical Society will host a concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at the Minot Center Congregational Church, corner of Jackson Hill Road and Center Minot Hill Road.

Stephen and Susan Sanfilippo, currently living in Pembroke, are widely known for their renditions of seaman’s work chanties, naval ballads, whaling songs as well as revival hymns and songs of shore laborers and adventurers.

The songs are performed on period instruments: five-string banjo, angloconcertina, guitar and harmonica.

Donations will benefit the restoration of the Elijah Jones House, the new home of the society.

Refreshments will be served by the Minot Junior History Club.

Tours of the Elijah Jones House will be offered.

Golden Age Club meeting Oct. 14

AUBURN — The next monthly meeting of IHM Golden Age Club will be Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Sacred Heart Church.

There will be a harvest dinner and homemade desserts. The cost is $5 per person. Call 576-4082 to make reservations.

A short business meeting will follow lunch. Election of officers for 2015 will take place. A slate of officers was established, but nominations from the floor will be accepted.

There also will be a cookie auction, so don’t forget to bring your cookies.

St. Anne Sodality membership meeting

LEWISTON — The Ladies of St. Anne Sodality of Holy Family will hold their membership meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15.

After a brief business meeting, games of Halloween bingo will be played. Admission will be a bag of Halloween candy, which will be donated to the activity department at D’Youville Pavilion for patient distributions.

Doors will open at 5:30. Refreshments will be served by Flo Marquis.

Cash Raffle Tickets will be sold after masses on Nov. 8 and 9 to be drawn at the Dec. 3 dinner.

Raw milk production guidelines

ORONO — University of Maine Cooperative Extension’s bulletin with guidelines on raw milk production is available for licensed dealers and people interested in becoming licensed with the state of Maine.

Donald E. Hoenig, VMD, UMaine Extension, authored “Raw Milk Production: Guidelines for Maine Licensed Dealers.” Topics covered include milking procedures, milk room equipment, milking facilities, cleaning equipment, raw milk and foodborne illness, and tests conducted by the Department of Agriculture.
