100 years ago, 1916
Moses Young of Hartford was in Lewiston the first of the week on his way home from Topsham where he had been to see I. T. Williams about purchasing an ox. Mr. Young stated that he was wintering eight yoke of oxen and steers and that he had been down the line to purchase an odd one of Mr. Williams which girthed 7 feet and 8 inches, to mate one that he had. The people in Hartford are wintering large herds of cattle having their barns full of hay. Mr. Young stated that he was going to begin lumbering at once, with his oxen.

50 years ago, 1966
(Photo Caption) Gay streamers, fish, octopi and netting provide the decorative background for the underwater theme carried out at a function at the Jewish Community Center. Mrs. Jack Schnitzer designed and created the setting, using overhead streamers and decorations carried out in more detail on the walls, with two kissing fish and netting as the focal point on the stage. On each table was placed a glass bowl with a live goldfish swimming around. This is just one of the numerous effects achieved by Mrs. Schnitzer in her decorations for various organizations in the Twin Cities.

25 years ago, 1991
The bulk of the Sabattus selectmen’s meeting Monday night was taken up by Jean Rogers, a representative from Maine Municipal Association, who introduced a new insurance plan that could save 12 percent on plan costs to the town. MMA is the insurance carrier for town employees. Selectmen will be meeting with department heads at the Town Hall at 4 p.m. Wednesday to discuss the possible impact on town employees.
