POLAND — Noah Salmons cracked two doubles, drove in three runs, then snuffed out a Lake Region rally in the seventh to pick up the save in an 8-6 Poland win in both teams’ Western Maine Conference season-opener on Monday.
Gawain Tibbetts led the Knights’ offense with three hits while Jake Wiseman added a pair. Caleb Hodgkin picked up the victory in relief of starter Ben Bernier.
Connor Hunt had two hits t lead the Lakers.

Bates 9, Fisher 4
LEWISTON — Bates exploded for six runs in the third to pick up its seventh win in a row, 9-4, over Fisher College on Monday at Leahey Field.
Jack Arend drove in three runs and Asher MacDonald two for the Bobcats (11-5). Ryan McCarthy got the offense going with a leadoff home run in the first. Kyle Carter and Brendon Canavan had two hits and scored two runs apiece.
Connor Russell picked up the victory with two innings of scoreless relief. The two teams combined to use 14 pitchers on the afternoon.
Reinaldo Moreta had two hits to lead Fisher (24-18), an NAIA program.
The seven-game win streak is the Bobcats’ longest since 2011.
