In a conspicuous space at the Barker mill where every employee of the company might see it Monday morning, the Little Androscoggin Water Power Co. has posted the following highly interesting and praise-worthy announcement. “This company proposed to immediately plow several acres of new land on Eighth street, New Auburn, between Broad and Mill streets. The intentions of the company are to let this land, free of rental charges, to employees of the Barker Mill in plots 100 by 50 feet in dimension, so that the employees may raise vegetables sufficient for their family supply.”

Lewiston police were continuing their investigation today of an incident in which a Massachusetts man reportedly was pushed off the Grand Trunk Railroad bridge last night. The man was pulled out of the Androscoggin River by Patrolman Eugene N. Gurney after he had fallen 40 feet into the river. Patrolman Gurney was in the immediate area when he was hailed down by the man who managed to swim to the bank and get onto dry ground.

Vive la musique! “Le rendez-vous de la chanson” is making a comeback in the Twin Cities. Lewiston resident Georgette Berube, a state senator and supporter of the arts, will host a special weekly French radio show on WRBC-91.5 FM, the Bates College radio station. Berube hosted “Le rendez-vous de la chanson” for eight years before another radio station, WCOU, went off the air in December of 1990. The show will make its return on April 26. It is scheduled to run every Sunday from 8 to 10 a.m. through May 17. Berube has agreed to continue the show through August if arrangements can be made for the student-run station to remain on the air through the summer months.
