A Casco man was shot in the face while hunting birds in Gorham on Monday morning, a Maine game warden said.

The 55-year-old victim said he was hit with birdshot shortly before 8 a.m. while hunting pheasant off Mosher Road/Route 237 in Gorham, across the road from Shaw Brothers Construction, according to a news release from the Maine Warden Service.

The victim told authorities he had a brief interaction with two men after he was shot, Cpl. John MacDonald wrote in the release. The men, who were not identified, quickly fled the scene, the victim said.

According to witness statements, one of the men was described as tall with black hair, eyeglasses, possibly in his 30s. The other man was described as average height, heavy-set with a dirty blonde mustache, possibly in his 40s.

The men were believed to have a dark green Toyota four-wheel drive pickup truck of early 2000s vintage. The two-door truck has an extended cab and an open bed with no cap. The truck is bigger than a Tacoma and is possibly an older style T100 or Tundra, MacDonald wrote.  

The victim was taken to Bridgton Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
