BROWNFIELD — The nationally touring Heather Pierson Trio will perform a benefit concert for Mountain Top Music Center at Stone Mountain Arts Center on Tuesday, July 3, at 8 p.m. 

Based in the Mount Washington Valley,  the trio is a rare bunch — three musicians from three distinct generations and backgrounds, bringing their skills and down-to-earth honesty to bear on original songs and choice covers that bring to life the sounds of the streets of New Orleans and the valleys of Appalachia.  With a “traveling music store” of instruments, this trio delivers heartfelt music with brilliant musicianship, stellar three-part vocal harmonies, and earthy charm.  

Their latest CD, “Singin’,” released in June 2017, debuted at No. 1 on the folk radio charts and was the No. 11 album for the year. Their debut EP, “Still She Will Fly,” had the No. 2 single for the year on folk radio in 2015.  

Heather Pierson (lead vocals, piano, acoustic guitar, tenor banjo, ukulele, melodica) is an award-winning singer-songwriter, classically trained jazz pianist, and performer. With eight previous solo recordings under her belt, Pierson’s wise-beyond-her-years songwriting, angelic voice and world-class chops have catapulted her into the spotlight.  

Davy Sturtevant (cornet, dobro, acoustic guitar, fiddle, mandolin, harmony vocals) is a veteran touring artist, producer, engineer, songwriter, and performer. Armed with a gorgeous tenor voice and a mighty arsenal of instruments that come to life in his capable hands, Sturtevant is at once a witty, thoughtful  and engaging musical presence.  

Shawn Nadeau (bass, harmony vocals) brings a rock solid thump informed by a wide spectrum of unique rhythmic and melodic sensibilities ranging from rockabilly to reggae to jazz.  Together, these seemingly disparate voices draw on their respective experiences of the American musical voice – jazz, blues, folk — to create a unique and memorable experience.

Mountain Top Music Center is a community music school located in Conway, New Hampshire. Its mission is to enrich lives and build community by providing inspiring music education and by offering performance and listening opportunities throughout the area. They use music to build community through group study and performance, shared listening, and mutually respectful, inter-generational, multi-cultural musical communication.  

MTMC plans to renovate and revitalize the historic Bolduc Block in downtown Conway Village. “Built to last” in 1931 by Leon Bolduc, the building served for seven decades as an anchor to business in Conway, housing department stores, cafes, offices, boutiques, the post office, and of course the Majestic Theatre. A fire in 2005 crippled business in the Bolduc Block, but the structure now stands repaired and in structurally excellent condition. Considering widespread positive feedback from the community, the board of trustees of Mountain Top Music Center authorized the purchase of the building in order to preserve it and secure it as a musical hub for the community.  As its new owner as of 2015, MTMC has a vision to revitalize and utilize the entire property, returning it to its former glory—and, more importantly, to its role as a community gathering place for Conway and a vibrant center for performing arts activity.
