KINGFIELD — Lightning struck an unoccupied house on Curve Street on Tuesday evening, causing damage to the roof and third-floor attic.
Kingfield Fire Chief Fred Nichols said the call came in at 5:45 p.m. when other departments were busy with storm cleanup.
“It took us a bit of time to get organized,” Nichols said. “The site was cleared by 8:30 p.m.”
He said the building, which had no electricity, is owned by his aunt, Barbara Dexter. The building was mostly empty. There was no insurance.
Nichols estimated the damage at $30,000.
About 30 firefighters from Kingfield, New Portland, Strong, Salem and Carrabassett Valley responded.
