I will not vote for any candidate who will not pledge to vote for the following three things:

First, prohibit the possession or purchase of an AR-15 and any automatic weapon able to rapid fire except by the military, police or other authorized security personnel.

Second, prohibit the possession or use of any magazine holding more than five shells except as No. 1.

Third, work to update Maine’s outdated and difficult-to-use list of persons prohibited from possessing or owning a firearm.

The old saw about depriving hunters is ridiculous. Hunting laws already cover Nos. 1 and 2.

The Second Amendment to the Constitution states:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

We already have a militia — it is called the National Guard, and it is well regulated.
