LEWISTON — A body found in Garcelon Bog in January has been identified as a Lewiston man who was reported missing more than five years ago, according to state authorities.

The man was identified as Michael Roberts, 68, using DNA analysis at the State Police Crime Laboratory, according to a Tuesday statement from the Maine State Police. Roberts was reported missing in November 2019 after apparently wandering off from a Bartlett Street residence.

His body was found by a Lewiston resident Jan. 25 in Garcelon Bog at the end of Russell Street, which is about a mile from the bog, and contacted authorities, the state police said at the time.

The remains were transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for examination and identification. State Police in January said the remains had been in the bog for an extended period of time and that there was no danger to the public.

State Police Major Crimes South assisted with the recovery and identification of the remains. The statement Tuesday said authorities are not considering the death suspicious.
