Q I came in on the tail-end of an item on TV. It was something about a wristband that indicates when you need to reapply sunscreen. Have you heard of anything like that?
Answer: I sounds like the UVSunSense wristband — which sounds like a good idea, because sunscreen is most effective when reapplied regularly.
You simply wrap the sun-sensitive band around your wrist, then apply sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher to your exposed skin and on the band. When the bright blue-purple color fades, it is time to reapply sunscreen. And when the color changes to yellow-orange, it’s time to cover up or get out of the sun to avoid burning.
The disposable bands can be used in salt, fresh and chlorinated water. A seven-pack sells for about $6 at uvsunsense.com or 1-800-794-9411.

Q I am thinking of taking some of my designer clothes and handbags to a local upscale consignment shop. I have a big selection of labels, including Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Burberry, Armani, Valentino, Chanel, Prada, Gucci and Louis Vuitton. Which retain the highest value at resale?
Answer: Those last three usually sell quite well. Burberry, Armani and Valentino have a small but faithful following. But for the highest return, nothing beats Chanel, the ultimate classic. (Hard to part with, though.)
